The Choir

The Polyphonia Society is the all-professional, resident choir of Saint Clement’s Church, Philadelphia. Under the direction of Organist & Choirmaster Peter Richard Conte, the 16-member choir leads a sung setting of the Mass each Sunday, as well as on Feast Days and during special liturgies throughout the year.

As interpreters of early European polyphonic sacred music, Polyphonia sings complete mass settings of the Renaissance’s so-called Golden Age of Polyphony and those of the great Anglican cathedrals, side-by-side with the plainchant on which they are based. Saint Clement’s has been and remains one of very few parish churches in the United States that offers these masterworks every week of the year, and Polyphonia presents them in their original context, that of a full-scale, living worship service.
