Shrine of Charles Stuart, King & Martyr

Robert Mattis was also the prime force in the installation of the Shrine
of S. Charles, K.M., in 1989. The statue was carved by Anton Wagner, the famous
carver of Walsingham statues, who modelled the statue of S. Charles after
the porcelain figure at S. Mary’s Church, South Creake, Norfolk, near
Walsingham. The dossal curtain and altarino were designed and crafted by Mr.
Mattis, and the statue was blessed by The Rt Rev’d David Schofield,
SSC, Bishop of San Joaquin, on September 24, 1989. It was a gift of the Society
of King Charles the Martyr.
